Philip Moore graduated in medicine from the University of Manchester. Subsequently, as SHO in Cardiology, he developed a keen interest in, and enthusiasm for, teaching - initially to medical students and nurses and subsequently to General Practitioners and junior hospital doctors.

During his time as Registrar, he undertook research in renal disease and obtained the degree of PhD.

He moved into General Practice and for four years he was a GP principal in Hertfordshire. As a GP, he was CHD (coronary heart disease) lead for his practice and during his final year in primary care was CHD lead for the St Albans and Harpenden PCT, sitting also on the PCT Professional Executive Committee (PEC). During that time he was extensively involved in implementing the CHD NSF locally. He had a key role in setting up a pioneering community heart failure service, bridging the gap between primary and secondary care.

Whilst in General Practice he became convinced of the need for the effective teaching of electrocardiographic interpretation and he was instrumental in setting up the partnership on which these present courses are built.

He subsequently moved back into hospital practice as a cardiology SpR and is currently a specialist registrar in cardiology at Harefield Hospital. His particular interests are in coronary intervention and devices. He is acutely aware of the continuing inadequacy in the teaching of electrocardiography and of the importance of the ECG in any cardiovascular assessment, which is undiminished despite the advent of many other investigative techniques.

He has extensive teaching experience both in primary and secondary care and has a driving determination to provide high quality ECG teaching, based on clear explanations and a firm understanding of the principles of electrocardiography.
